  • Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty

Do your eyes make you look tired? Do your eyes make you look older than you feel?

If so, an upper eyelid blepharoplasty (lift) be a solution to your problem.

Problem Excess skin and/or fat of the upper eyelids.
Procedure The excess skin and/or fat of the upper eyelids is removed. The incisions are carefully planned to “leave behind” the correct amount of tissue. The final scar is positioned in the desired location of your upper eyelid crease.   This crease is secured by attaching the underside of the eyelid skin to the muscle that lifts the eyelid.   This technique creates a nice, crisp, stable upper eyelid crease.
Goal To rejuvenate the upper eyelids.
Facility Office, Surgery Center or Hospital
Preparation Patients should wait at least 6 months after LASIK vision surgery.  Patients should also have any dry eye symptoms treated prior to undergoing elective periorbital surgery.
Anesthesia An upper eyelid blepharoplasty is most commonly performed under local anesthesia in the office.   However, it can be performed in the operating room under general anesthesia.
Hospital stay Most patients go home after surgery.
Positioning After an upper eyelid blepharoplasty you should sleep with your head elevated above your heart for a few days to help reduce the swelling.
Assistance You will be able to walk around, feed and bathe yourself.  Depending on your pain medication requirements, you may not be able to drive or care for others.
Walking You are encouraged to walk around as much as possible to help reduce the risk of DVT and thromboembolism.
Showering You may shower immediately following surgery.
Exercise Regular exercise after 1 week.
Sex Wait 1 week because you don’t want to increase your blood pressure during the early healing period.
Work If you have a desk job you can return to work as soon as you are comfortable doing so.
Swelling Usually greatest around 3 days after surgery from which time it starts to subside.
Bruising You may be bruised for 1-2 weeks. Most people can cover the bruising with concealer after 7-10 days. We can also zap you with one of our lasers to speed up the resolution of the bruising. Taking Arnica Montana before and after surgery will reduce the severity of the bruising.
    Follow-up Appointments 1-3 days after surgery, 1 week, 8 weeks, 6 months, 1 year.
