My daughter was in need of plastic surgery. I work in the operating room at a local hospital. After working with Dr. Ben Brown in the operating room and witnessing his talent and skill, I knew he was the plastic surgeon I wanted to operate on my daughter. My daughter recently had surgery by Dr. Brown. She did great and looks great. Both she and I couldn’t be happier. I highly recommend Dr. Ben Brown.

The goal of all plastic surgery, be it reconstructive or cosmetic, is to solve problems and improve the quality of patients’ lives. For reconstructive patients this usually means restoring form and/or function to an injured, diseased or congenitally deformed body part. For cosmetic patients, this usually means restoring or enhancing deformed, deficient or aged body parts to boost one’s confidence and improve their quality of life.

Dr. Brown’s motto is “Plan like Leonardo Da Vinci and operate like Michelangelo.” Dr. Brown carefully evaluates all patients, often taking many measurements and photos. Before entering the operating room Dr. Brown plans the operation using photos, measurements, calculations and careful markings. Once in the operating room, Dr. Brown combines his careful analytical planning with an artistic eye to help patients achieve their goals.

Safety is Dr. Brown’s top priority. He believes operating on someone’s body is a privilege and should never be taken lightly. In an effort to minimize the risk of errors and complications, Dr. Brown uses many detailed checklists, which help prevent things from being overlooked or forgotten.

Dr. Ben Brown grew up in the small, rural Minnesota community of Glenwood. Throughout his formative years Ben worked as a technician at a local glass shop and spent a lot of time building things and fixing small engines. Surgery was a natural fit for Dr. Brown because he spent so much of his childhood working with his hands. Dr. Brown has been described by his attendings as being smooth and masterful in the operating room and under the microscope.

While in college at Tulane University in New Orleans, Ben worked as a Nurse’s Aid at Touro Infirmary. He loved the time he was able to spend with patients and learned that the most important thing a healthcare provider can do for patients – is listen. Dr. Brown enjoys listening to patients, discussing their concerns and formulating a treatment plan as a team. In 2005 Ben graduated summa cum laude from Tulane University. He then moved to Dallas, Texas where he attended the University of Texas – Southwestern Medical School.

While on an ER rotation during his 4th year of medical school, Ben found himself searching the board for patients with lacerations, hand injuries or face injuries. This passion he had for putting things back together led him to register for a plastic surgery rotation and the rest is history.

In 2009 Dr. Brown graduated #1 in his medical school class of 232 students. Following medical school graduation Dr. Brown moved to Washington, DC and started his plastic surgery training at the prestigious Georgetown University 6-year integrated plastic surgery residency program under the chairmanship of the world renowned Dr. Scott Spear. Throughout his 6 years of plastic surgery training Dr. Brown had the opportunity to learn from over 100 surgeons at 8 hospitals including leaders in plastic surgery such as Scott Spear, Christopher Attinger, Maurice Nahabedian, Stephen Baker, Ivica Ducic, Jim Higgins, Steven Davison and Michael Olding. During his 6 years of plastic surgery training Dr. Brown logged 2,126 plastic surgery index procedures, which is nearly double the required minimum of 1,150. Of these 2,126 index procedures, 137 were microvascular free tissue transfers, which is significantly more than the required minimum of 20.

Dr. Brown’s plastic surgery colleagues describe him as having an encyclopedic knowledge of plastic surgery which earned him the “Outstanding Resident Teacher Award” 3 years in a row.

While in college at Tulane University, Ben fell in love with the Gulf Coast of Florida. Despite numerous offers to join plastic surgery practices in the Washington, DC area and elsewhere, Dr. Brown chose to move to beautiful Pensacola, Florida.
